first cohort

The Pivotal Fund partners are excited to announce our first cycle of funding, distributing $65,800 to 94 visual artists in our region.

Out of a total of 156 applicants, we are thrilled to be able to provide funding to 100% of the 94 eligible artists in our priority categories: BIPOC artists, transgender and gender non-conforming artists, and artists with disabilities.

> 73 are artists of color, 46 of whom are Black
> 28 are artists with disabilities
> 20 are non-binary/gender non-conforming/gender-fluid
> 9 are transgender artists

These grants are made possible with support provided by The Andy Warhol Foundation for Visual Arts Regional Regranting Program. We are so grateful to The Warhol Foundation for their trust in us and for choosing to invest in our communities. It is an honor to be able to provide an influx of support to so many artists at this critical moment. We are hopeful that these efforts will be a part of the reason our burgeoning arts culture survives these challenging times and sustains our overall culture in the future.

We are now entering into discussions about what is ahead for 2021 with project grants for visual artists through the Pivotal Fund, so stay tuned! We appreciate everyone’s encouragement and support!

Elsewhere is a living museum, artist residency and collaborative laboratory set inside a three-story former thrift store housing a 58-year collection of material culture. Elsewhere serves as platform for site-specific experimentation, social action and interdisciplinary collaboration. Our mission is to build collaborative futures with people and things.

the warhol foundation

The Regional Re-granting Program was established in 2007 to recognize and support the movement of independently organized, public-facing, artist-centered activity that animates local and regional art scenes but that lies beyond the reach of traditional funding sources. The program is administered by non-profit visual art centers across the United States that work in partnership with the Foundation to fund artists’ experimental projects and collaborative undertakings.

The Pivotal Fund logo was designed by Kinari Council (he/they), a community-based mixed media artist, designer located in North Carolina. He attended NCA&T’S VISART Program and utilizes the skills he learned to create socially conscious art centered around creating awareness and engaging subjects concerning marginalized groups. His passion is to use his creativity to speak to and for those that often go overlooked.
